Chair City Above the Clouds

 


There is a village above the clouds located in the mountainous area of Papua which has an altitude of 1.8 Km above the sea level. This place was so beautiful and calm. The jungle is still and many beautiful creations found in this place. Every morning or after the rain, all the whole village is always covered by fogs. If you are there, you will find it difficult to see a person who is 3 or more meters away from you. So, if you are new and going on an adventure and  this situation happens, you better stop walking; wait until the fogs are gone. Otherwise you can step in the wrong place and fall. Then, one thing that you should not forget is a jacket, otherwise the chill will be piercing to the heart. Temperature there is 24 to 28 degree celsius in the day and 9 to 12 degree celsius at night. There, you can touch an ice even though there is no ice maker nor snow but for  there is ice rain happening oftenly so you can touch it. Besides that, as a village above the clouds there is also strong and currently wind. Airplanes can only land there in the morning around 5 to 11 a.m. and cannot land above that time because if they land above that time the wind is too strong and it could crash them. 

The one that is mentioned as a village above the clouds is Pogapa which is also known widely as KKP, Kota Kursi Pogapa or in English “Chair City of Pogapa. The reason behind calling it KKP is because if you take a look from above, high on the altitude, It exactly has a chair shaped. The backrest is a range of mounts, the seat is an airstrib, and the feet place is a cliff to the river Kemabu down the valley. Those things formed it to be looked at as a Chair. 

Next, this place is not empty, there is a tribe that lives there. The tribe is called Moni, Migani. Their daily life is gardening and hunting. They plant all along the mountain and the valley. The plants they plant are so fertile for the land is also fertile. During the night, men go out to hunt for the Kuskus. They are so talented at hunting so they never miss even an arrow. One arrow one kuskus even though the kuskus lives high up on very big trees. Their life is so fun and they enjoy  it even though there is no internet connection and transportation, nor electricity like in the city. 

Lastly, there are some things that you should not miss from this place when you go there. First, if you are a coffee lover, this place is the best for you because there is a small local coffee business, Kopi Menebega. Society there plants coffee in their garden and their coffee is turned into the  powder by the twisting machine. Besides that, you should taste a sugar cane. I believe you would like it. They have more than 10 kinds of sugar cane. Finally, you must try hunting. It is hard but fun. Then if you get any kuskus you have to taste it.

People used to call  this place as  KKP ( kota Kursi Pogapa) or in English  " the Chair City of Pogapa" .  They call it because the shape of Pogapa is likes a chair from the altitude. The backrest is a range of mount Kinogo Pigu, the sit place is an airstrip, and the cliff down to the Kemabu river form a feet place. Fogs on Pogapa

Pogapa is the place that is located on the mountain. Almost every morning, the fog come out and covered all the surfaces. I you are there, you can only see 3 m away from your place, more than that all clear-white as snow. You cannot see anything in front. Thus, if it happens while you are walking, you better stop your step until it stops. Otherwise you will go wrong and you may fall.
